This 1972 Lotus Elan Sprint was acquired new through Lotus Military Sales and Service and remained with the original owner before being sold and subsequently refurbished. The car is finished in two-tone green and white over black upholstery and is powered by a 1.6-Liter “Big Valve” inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a black soft top, 26R-style 13″ magnesium wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, dual Weber carburetors, and a stainless-steel exhaust system. The current owner acquired the car in February 2019, and work carried out in preparation for the sale included adjusting the carburetors and flushing the fluids. This Elan Sprint is offered on dealer consignment with removed factory wheels, spare parts, a tool kit, repair manuals, a car cover, original sales documents, refurbishment records, dyno results, and a classic-branded Washington state title.
The fiberglass body was removed from the frame and refinished in green with white lower portions during previous ownership. The bumpers are painted gold to match the horizontal side stripes, and additional details include a black soft top, pop-up headlights, side-marker lights, a driver-side mirror, and a central polished exhaust outlet. Cracks in the finish are noted, and the selling dealer states that paint protection film has been applied to the front end, quarter panel flares, and over the gold trim.
Black 13″ 26R-style knock-off magnesium wheels feature silver lips and are mounted with Michelin XAS FF tires. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors, and the brake fluid was flushed in preparation for the sale.
The interior features black seat upholstery with a color-coordinated dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Appointments include a polished wood dash fascia and gear selector knob as well as three-point seat belts, electric windows, a heater, and a glove compartment.
A Colin Chapman signature steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation that includes a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer indicates 69k miles, less than 500 of which have been added by the current owner. True mileage is unknown.
The twin-cam 1.6-liter “Big Valve” inline-four was overhauled in 2017 by J&L Fabricating of Puyallup, Washington, and features dual 45mm Weber DCOE carburetors and a stainless-steel exhaust system. Work performed in preparation for the sale included resealing and adjusting the carburetors, changing the oil, and flushing the coolant. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The differential fluid was flushed in preparation for the sale. Documentation accompanying the car includes original sales documents, repair manuals, refurbishment records, and a British registration plate.
